Kenefick Park – Omaha Nebraska

Kenefick Park in Omaha, Nebraska, is a must-stop landmark for railfans and history buffs alike, perched dramatically above Union Pacific’s sprawling mainline near the Missouri River. The park’s stars are two massive steam locomotives—Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4023 and Challenger No. 3977—displayed nose-to-nose as if frozen mid-conversation about who pulled the heavier train. Set against an active rail corridor where modern freight traffic rumbles past daily, the park creates a living contrast between railroading’s muscle-bound steam era and today’s diesel-powered giants. It’s compact, scenic, and unapologetically loud at times, which feels perfectly appropriate—after all, subtlety was never a Union Pacific design goal.

Hello World!

My name is Matthew Taylor and welcome to my blog website dedicated to Trains (Real and Models). This is a spinoff of my motorcycle focused blog website, Wanderlust Lyfe. Instead of posting train-related content there and making a confusing mess, I decided to create a dedicated website and YouTube channel for my oldest hobby, Model Railroading. Here I will be posting videos (YouTube links) and other content from time to time about real trains and model railroading. Specifically, I will be building an O scale and HO scale layouts in the future and plan to create some posts related to the layout builds.

These two layouts have been a long time in the making. I hope to start benchwork in either 2027 or late 2028. I have not completed the train room as of December 29th, 2025. I began planning the model railroad after buying this home in the fall of 2020.  However, I have repeatedly delayed the Train Room project in favor of other projects. Videos and other content will be slow to post here but will become more frequent in the future.

The First Video for the Wanderlust Train YouTube Channel

This is a video with most content stolen from myself from my USA Midwest 2023 Day 8 video that I am working on and as of this post, have not uploaded yet. I think it is legal to steal from yourself LOL.
